Empowering women? NO!

How to start?

Let me start by saying what I told my fellow cohorts on this question last May:

I don’t want to empower women and I am not a feminist. Many of them were astonished.

No, I don’t want to empower women because I see no reason to empower women.

WE ARE POWERFUL already.

What we do need, and this very urgently and every single day and moment, is opportunity, support, recognition and becoming visible in all we do.

We start our lives with so many obstacles and so many outdated ideas that we spend a lot of time, energy creating resources to overcome those. When we do, we realise how much more we need to learn, to become better at, to excel at. We face new challenges, new decisions in every stage of our lives: education, university, children, stay-at-home mom, career.

The time, energy, money we spend to get from A to B takes us double more time than our male counterparts. We take baby steps and they take big strides. Our male counterparts can concentrate on just going after their goals and learn to get some of the skills necessary. Women, on the other, need to learn even more skills in order to achieve the same results. And this, most probably, while juggling career, household and children. And then we wonder why women cannot climb the career ladder as fast as a male counterpart? Their plates are full. It is time we celebrate every baby step a woman takes to achieve her goals.

After all, WE ARE POWERFUL AND RESILIENT AND HAVE LEARNED THROUGH OUR LIVES HOW TO OVERCOME OBSTACLES.

And I am certain we will learn and work faster towards our goals if we all celebrate and support each other. Cheers.

Thank you for reading and sharing.
